When New Cabins Create New Insurance Risks

by Stockton-Hill Insurance | Jun 19, 2026

One of the most common issues Stockton-Hill encounters involves campground improvements that never get reported to the insurance company.

A campground owner had gradually expanded the property by adding new rental cabins over several seasons. The additions helped generate more revenue and improved the guest experience, but the owner had not reviewed the insurance program since the expansion began.

During the renewal process, Stockton-Hill conducted a detailed review of the property and building schedule. The review identified structures that had been added after the original policy was written.

As Josh often tells owners, campgrounds can change quickly. New cabins, bathhouses, pavilions, playgrounds, and amenities can appear over the course of a year without anyone thinking about insurance implications.

The review allowed the owner to update property values, verify replacement costs, and make sure the campground's investment was properly protected moving forward.
